INSPIRATION UBUD | GUEST VILLAS

Why build another beige Japandi interior when there is a wild, living jungle outside the window? This project is our answer. Instead of dissolving the interior into the landscape, we gave the landscape someone to talk to. We wanted to keep the feeling of the place and make it personal, emotional, slightly cinematic.

The project runs on contrast. Heavy and light. Smooth and textured. Quiet planes of wood against loud decorative surfaces. The massive stair carries an almost invisible railing. A green glass table sits next to a soft sofa.

The green outside does not stay outside. It moves into the olive ceiling, the chair upholstery, the glass of the tabletop. There is a lot of pattern here, and every pattern has its own scale: big curls on the kitchen fronts, a thin line across the bedroom wall, a small tiger by the basin. You won’t catch it all at once.

Each villa is a two-storey house of its own, with a private garden and plunge pool. Within 80 square metres the shared room stays open to the garden, while the bedroom and bathroom hold a quieter register.

For us this villa became a study of what a contemporary tropical interior can be. Bolder. More decorative. More sensual.
